Delegate to Elevate
Your job isn’t to do more. It’s to make sure the right things get done by the right people.
Delegation is an essential leadership skill. It builds capacity and strengthens accountability and engagement. It allows managers to take extra responsibilities and work more strategically, confident that their standards and deadlines are being met, maybe even exceeded.
But delegation isn’t as simple as passing work from your list on to someone else’s. Sometimes you must slow down to go faster.
That’s why busy managers struggle to delegate, claiming a lack of time to clarify expectations, train or coach. They end up standing still at best: holding onto low-value tasks and firefighting, becoming overwhelmed. The hamster wheel spins but it doesn’t move forward.
Research shows that 20% to 35% of the collaboration in teams comes from only 3% to 5% of its members. These highly capable individuals risk becoming bottlenecks because they have too much on their plates. Once managers know how to delegate well, they make sure that the work is more fairly distributed across all individuals.
In this practical and very interactive session, we’ll reframe delegation as a powerful leadership tool rather than just a task-management exercise. We’ll cover the essentials of good delegation and the pitfalls too. You’ll learn how to release work without losing control, whilst elevating the capability and career development of your whole team. In the final 30 minutes you’ll have an opportunity to discuss your own delegation challenges.
